“Godspeed” is a wonderful old salutation when two friends depart one another.  If you do a little linguistic search you’ll find that it comes from an old English phrase God Spede, which means may God flourish you. Wouldn’t we all love to be flourished by God! That quest, for just such an existence, is a part of the Christian pilgrimage.

Tucked in the little word is an image. For us today that image might be a little misconstrued. “Speed” signals action, productivity, quick,. All a major part of our culture. “God” on the other hand brings a curiosity, mystery, question. Is God fast, too fast? Or slow, too slow?

During Lent 2026 we will be exploring this concept of “Godspeed” and how God mysteriously flourishes us by listening to the story and wisdom gleaned from an intentional practice of Matt Canlis. Each week we will hear how Matt learned to live at Godspeed and from whom he learned these lessons. Interaction with the late Eugen Peterson, N.T. Write, Father Giles, and the everyday lives of people in his sphere of life.

This seven week time will also give each of us the opportunity to ponder our own pilgrimage and discuss with one another how we can live at Godspeed in our own circumstances. We will gather virtually on Wednesday evenings from 7-8:30 beginning February 18 and will finish April 1. Week one will watch the entire video of Matt’s journey together to set the stage for each proceedings week’s lesson.

The course is a free course, just click on this link to sign up to receive the link for this virtual gathering. We do ask that you consider contributing to Rhythm of Grace and our scholarship fund that allows others to participate in our various ministries.
